Things to do near your holiday rental in and around Soulac-sur-Mer

Charente-Maritime is a great choice as a holiday destination.

Near Les Maisons de Saint-Georges lies the seaside resort of Royan, one of the most famous on France's Côte de Beauté.  Opening out onto the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, the town is famous for its fine sandy beaches and long hours of sunshine. As well as a lively town centre with shopping streets and market, Royan and the surrounding area offer many sports and leisure activities. 

We recommend a trip to the Pointe de Suzac on the coast. It is one of the region's main preserved areas. Walk along cliff-side paths that offer a more than magical view on the Côte de Beauté! Pretty cool, huh?

What about discovering the famous Fort Boyard? Although not open to the public, you can approach it by air or sea. All year round, you can take a cruise to see the famous fort up close. It is a must-see during any stay in Charente-Maritime for fans of the famous TV show. Head on a cruise from Fouras, La Rochelle, Saint-Denis or many other ports.

Those who are fond of salty food might be tempted by the famous oysters of Charente-Maritime considered the jewel of Charente! Enjoy them hot or cold, as you wish. Charente oysters are among only a few in the world to be refined in former salt marshes which makes their taste so unique, resulting in the greatest pleasure for your taste buds. If you want the crème de la crème of oysters, you must try Marennes-Oleron oysters, known for their light hazelnut taste and unique colour. 

Snail are another delicacy in Charente-Maritime. Just remember: in Charente-Maritime, we don't say snails, but "cagouille"!

For those who like sweet treats, don't pass up the chance to try the local pavés, chocolate blocks made in La Rochelle. This chocolatey treat is a nod to the city's history and refers to it small round cobblestones of the city streets. This chocolate speciality, featuring chopped caramelised hazelnuts and fleur de sel from the nearby Ile de Ré, is sure to make an impression! 

And to finish off, we recommend local traditional shortbread, in the form of galette charentaise! Once only served up for special occasions, now no one can come back from a holiday in Charente-Maritime without tasting it!
