Puy de Dome

This department is volcano country and owes its name to the highest peak in the Chaîne des Puys (made up of 80 volcanoes!), which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will love this region if you want a holiday offering countryside, mountain and urban settings. It's time for a revitalising stay!

A holiday among the volcanoes

Why not go to the Puy de Dôme this year? Whether you want to ski in the Massif Central or have a summer holiday, you'll be a long way from crowded resorts and beaches! The department offers a variety of activities. One must-do is climbing the Puy de Dôme (1465 metres)! The intrepid will make the ascent on foot, while others will prefer to take the electric train ride overlooking the valley. Once at the top, you can visit the Temple of Mercury, where you can see the remnants of one of the largest mountain sanctuaries in the Roman Empire!

Near your holiday rental in the Puy de Dôme you can:

  • Visit the Archaeological Museum of the Battle of Gergovia (immerse yourself in the Gallic War between Julius Caesar and Vercingetorix)
  • Cover more than 185 miles of marked trails, each more beautiful than the last
  • Get a bird's eye view of the Chaîne des Puys while paragliding
  • Go canoeing, take on a treetop adventure...
  • Schedule a day in Clermont-Ferrand
  • And in winter, ski in the Massif Central at resorts such as Super Besse with its 26 miles of slopes

You won't be able to leave without trying the local specialities. The stars are, of course, Auvergne's cheeses: Saint-Nectaire, Cantal, Salers, Fourme d'Ambert and Bleu d'Auvergne. Those with a sweet tooth will also enjoy the fruit jellies and cherry clafoutis. But we've heard the real speciality is Auvergne tripe: we'll let you see for yourself what this dish has in store...

A stay in the mountains at your holiday rental in the Puy de Dôme

Book your holiday at the 3-star Bois de la Reine in Super Besse for a sporty stay. You will be housed in a small chalet at the foot of the Puy de Sancy, 800 metres from the centre of the resort. The Super Besse resort has 27 slopes, a snowpark, a snowboard cross course, a freestyle jump area, a race track, a slalom course open to the public, a play area and a toboggan course open to all. After a busy day, you are sure to enjoy the heated outdoor swimming pool and sauna at your residence. So, are you ready to take a breather?
